Notes
Store in a cool, dry place.
Stories of the origin of Panettone are as plentiful as the pieces of dried and candied fruit inside of this Holiday treat. This much is certain: the rich bread dates back to the Middle Ages as a Christmas staple, and it originated in Italy.
You know Christmas season is in full swing when bakeries and grocery stores are stacked with basketball-sized boxes of this tasty treat, but we were excited to find a diminutive version at our local TJ’s. Frankly, we’ve never seen one so small, so obviously we had to give it a try!
So what was our take? The first thing we noted is that this little bread is adorable – it really is the perfect size to enjoy on your own, or with a friend. Secondly, it smells delicious – sweet and doughy in all the right ways.
As for the taste, it has a really well-balanced flavor – it’s not too sweet, and it’s very light, moist and fluffy. Bonus points for good raisin and dried fruit distribution, with just the right amount so as not to overwhelm the bread.
All told, we thoroughly enjoyed this “Panettoncino” and will definitely be adding it to our Christmas tradition moving forward!
