Challah bread is arguably the king of breads.
It’s delicious, it’s versatile, and – let’s face it – it’s a damn fine looking loaf of bread. Break out the Challah at any family gathering or holiday party and you’ve immediately up’d your game.
But Challah shouldn’t be reserved just for special occasions. It makes for a damn tasty everyday bread. For the past few weeks, we’ve been putting this theory to the test with this TJ’s version offering. The results were delicious.
On its own, this Trader Joe’s bread is meaty, dense, chewy and moist – in all the right ways. The golden brown, delicate crust has a kiss of sweetness, and it’s soft and flavorful like it’s supposed to be.
We usually like to toast our bread, but Challah is one of the few breads we prefer right out of the bag. Maybe it’s because the soft denseness and fresh baked texture miraculously lasts for days – long after lesser breads would start to firm up and grow stale.
We loved this bread thick-cut and paired with our favorite sliced meats, or open-faced with leftover chicken salad. And, or course, you’d be remiss not to try this bread as the base for French Toast (recommended recipe here). Simply divine!
This Challah bread from Trader Joe’s is definitely a keeper, and it’s earned a spot on our grocery list. What’s your favorite Challah pairing? Let us know in the comments below!
