We’ve been broadening our horizons at Trader Joe’s lately – heading further East and trying some of the treats that India has to offer.

We’ve tried a few meat pie offerings at TJ’s (with mixed results), but we were definitely intrigued to try what’s essentially an Indian version of a Chicken Pot Pie.

The good news? It was surprisingly delicious!

We found the outer crust to be very tasty. It was nice and buttery – similar to other pie crusts we’ve tasted at TJ’s.

But the real treat was inside. The filling had a good kick of spice and was very flavorful. Even the chicken was moist, seasoned and well cooked.

One negative: the potatoes seemed a bit waterlogged, so it made the sauce a bit thinner than it should have been. Stirring the pie filling thoroughly helped considerably.

All told, we very much enjoyed these Chicken Balti Pies from Trader Joe’s. They were a fun way to add some variety and spice to our dinner arsenal.
