We’re not immune to the food trends of the minute, and it’s always fun to see where today’s “hot, new” additives and ingredients will pop up next.
So when we saw this new bacon-infused chocolate bar at our local TJ’s, we had to bite (pun intended).
Truthfully though – while we understand it’s probably blasphemy to not fawn over anything bacon-related – our results were a bit mixed.
On one hand, we enjoyed the same consistently stellar chocolate we’ve come to expect from Trader Joe’s. On the other hand, we found that the tiny bits of bacon mixed into the ganache provided an unwelcome texture – almost gritty – that didn’t play well with the creaminess of the filling.
Additionally, the flavor didn’t necessarily add to the equation, and instead left an odd finish.
Back on the positive side, the hint of smoked salt was a welcome tang on the tongue, and it served as a nice contrast to the sweetness of the chocolate.
All in all, this is a fun treat to sample that will certainly turn a few heads when served at a party or given as a gift, but we didn’t enjoy it enough to buy it again.
Side note: we were surprised that this chocolate bar had a creamy filling in general. Completely unaware that “ganache” is code for “a whipped filling of chocolate and cream”, we assumed a solid bar.

Summary : Our results were mixed. Sure, it's a fun treat to sample, but unwelcome texture and questionable finish left us underwhelmed.
